Medical Bills and Insulin
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Joshua Mann and I recently discovered I am likely a Type 1 diabetic.
Thanks to a perfectly timed series of events I am now unemployed, uninsured, in massive medical debt and can't afford the insulin I need to survive now.
It started when I quit my job, I had wanted to take some time off, develop new skills, and move on to bigger things (programming, specifically), however shortly after quitting my job my sixteen-year-old dog passed away. It was hard hit and it took some time to adjust.
During this time my health began to declined - and soon I was constantly tired, had no energy and no motivation. I had believed maybe it was just depression, and then I believed I just wasn't getting enough good quality sleep.
But then one night my mother noticed I was behaving strangely, I wasn't speaking in a way that made sense and my breathing was labored. She rushed me to the hospital and I quickly got worse, I was unable to breathe on my own and had to be put on a ventilator.
My blood sugar had reached nearly 900 through my attempts to feel better, and I had gone into ketoacidosis.
Now, due to the unfortunate timing of my health decline and the treatment that was needed (IV, ICU care, intubation) I have an excess of medical debt. In addition to that, the doctors have diagnosed me with Type 1 diabetes and I can not afford the insulin I need to live. In addition, finding work is going to be quite difficult, as I'm unable to do much physically as I recover from my stay in the hospital.
It is my hope that others who are both willing and able to donate to lighten this burden a bit as I recover.
