Sponsoring Refugees

Care for Refugees (CFR) is a non-profit organization that has sponsored refugees from different countries to come to Nova Scotia, Canada for over 15 years. CFR is a volunteer-based organization. It is run with many volunteers helping with both settlement and operations. The organization has sponsored over 150 refugees.

During the COVID pandemic, the organization saw the need for some training and basic skills development for new arrivals as well as other immigrants. CFR offered online computer literacy training, Financial Literacy and Parental training during this time. In partnership and collaboration with other organizations and professionals, CFR facilitated the Legal Information session series and the above-noted parental training. CFR continues to offer the training from time to time.

Sponsoring refugees and settlement support is the organization’s main mission and goals. To continue doing this work, CFR would like to be accepted as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. This requires not only our accumulated experience of sponsoring refugees over these 15 years, but also proof that we have substantial financial resources to continue doing this work.

We would then be given our own spaces to bring refugees to Canada as a stand-alone organization instead of having to rely on other SAHs to give us spaces.

Our fundraising goal is $75,000. We hope to get there through this GoFundMe and other events. The funds raised will be fully used to sponsor refugees.
