Excess skin removal after extreme weight loss
Donation protected
I have had a handful of friends ask me to create a GFM page to aid in me getting the surgery I need so even though I didn’t like the idea, I need to suck up my pride and start the dang thing. So here it goes…
If you’ve been following me on social, you’ve seen that I have lost over 120+ lbs which has left me with a lot of loose skin. This excess skin will not go away on its own and will only disappear with surgery.
I have met with a surgeon and to get the 3 surgeries I need, it’s close to $30k so I have focused on the two most important surgeries and could really use the help to make these surgeries happen.
Now that my consistent efforts of loosing weight has paid off, I’ve now reached the finish line of my transformation by electing to have two surgeries for the removal of excess skin, those being abdominoplasty (tummy) and brachioplasty (arms). These procedures are unfortunately ineligible to be covered by medical insurance, as they do not reach the requirements to be deemed a medical necessity.
When I started this journey, I knew there would be loose skin, but I didn’t quite understand the profound impact it would have on me on a daily basis. Having substantial loose skin impacts the way I see myself in the mirror and the way I exercise. The way I lay down, and look in clothes — it’s a constant and ever-present reminder of being overweight for most of my adult life. I want to be able to look in the mirror and see myself as many of you already see me, a strong, healthy, confident woman. I can’t move on from my previous emotions and feelings of my past weight until the reminders are gone.
Even if you're not able to contribute, I appreciate your reading my story and I would really appreciate it if you would share my GFM page!
You may be asking yourself, What is excess skin removal surgery and why would I need it? Excess skin removal surgery involves various body contouring procedures which can include lower and upper body lifts, thigh and buttock lift, panniculectomy, and more. These procedures are performed after major weight loss to target the extra skin folds on the body such as the legs, stomach, and arms. Eliminating extra skin after weight loss can improve your comfort and the way clothes fit on your body, as well as make exercising easier. The removal of skin can also assist with skin irritations caused by the excess skin.
Thank you!
