My mother, Tess "Neneng" Quintans from Guam, USA has been battling cancer for almost three years. This past August, Neneng, together with my father (Bu), traveled from Guam to Washington State for an emergency medical procedure that is currently not available on island. Mom, who was a Stage 2 breast cancer fighter, was going blind. And the reason, we have yet to find out. As she was recovering from three exhausting eye surgeries and procedures, she suffered multiple seizures. Soon we learned the devastating news that her cancer had spread to her bones, lungs, kidney, and brain--and has been reclassified with an aggressive Stage 4/Her2-positive breast cancer.

Since her diagnosis, Mom has been fighting through numerous rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, has been living in-and-out of the hospital, and signed up for weekly physical therapy to (re)learn the basics of life. Together with the wonderful oncology team and other providers at the Swedish Hospital (Edmonds, WA), Dad (who is also recovering from two heart attacks), my siblings and I have taken turns in caring for her. 

No question it is time and money well-spent, but we have watched the bills steadily pile up while entire family savings deplete and paid leave run out in caring for both parents. And with limited insurance coverage and being thousands of miles from home and each other . . . it has been very difficult.

This Christmas, we ask that you consider helping our family and the amazing Swedish Hospital providers treat Neneng's cancer and Bu's heart.
