Leanne' South Africa Experience
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Leanne I am 18-year-old girl who is about to take on her biggest dream.
During July-August 2016 I will be teaching swimming in South Africa to 8-13 year olds.
I need to fundraise roughly £1,500 to cover flights, accommodation, travel, 3 meals a day 7 days a week, transport in Africa, vaccinations and DBS checks. In addition to this I need to fundraise £500 for United through sports who is a charity who help disadvantaged communities reach their full potential in sport, education and health, they are based in South Africa, Ghana, Thailand, Argentina and the Caribbean.
While in Africa I will be teaching swimming 3 times a day in different schools Monday- Friday. Towards the end of the 5 weeks the children will be taking part in tournaments to show off their new skills. This is where the children can be selected for scholarships. I will be going away with the thought I’ve changed a child’s life, and if they did not get the scholarship they will still have gotten a skill for life, a skill they will need while living beside the sea.
I’ve always been interested in swimming, since the age of 6 I was part of a swimming club and at 10 I was swimming competitively, towards the age of 15 I got an injury so had to stop swimming. But I’ve never lost the feeling I had while swimming, how free I was, it was like I had the world in my hands. I want to give something back to the swimming community I was part of and let children feel what I did.
Any donations anyone is able to give I am extremely grateful for. Even if you cannot please give it a share you never know who might.
Thank you so much!
