LeeAnn’s Cancer Journey

Donation protected
News that NO ONE ever wants to receive…
You have breast cancer.
LeeAnn was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive lobular ductal ER positive cancer.
Her first thought was her 12 year old son Nicholas and how this would affect him.

Her diagnosis came after a routine mammogram/sonogram showed a spot that needed to be looked at again.
This led to 3 more mammograms, a stereotactic biopsy, a MRI guided biopsy and a breast MRI.
Well that spot turned out to actually be cancer.
Her surgeon Dr Mangiameli at New York cancer blood gave her 2 choices.
A lumpectomy with radiation and still have a 20% chance of reoccurrence due to a high family history OR to have a double mastectomy and chances of reoccurrence would drop to 3%.
For the sake of her health and her family she chose the double mastectomy.

Monday August 7th she had a double mastectomy, with a reconstruction surgery to follow after healing from the initial surgery.
THIS is the beginning of a very long, and difficulty journey. Many of us have been touched by cancer in some way. Someone you love has been affected by it and we understand the task she is about to take on.
She is a Mother, a Wife, a Daughter and a friend to many.
She could be any of us.
She will be out of work for some time. LeeAnn’s job is physically demanding, something she cannot do while healing properly from this major surgery and it will take her lengths of time to gain the strength to get back to work at 100% performance. The fact is, that she will be out of work for a while and doesn’t know when she will be able to return to work.

Whether she is helping a friend, donating her time for her sons middle school PTA as the acting president or collecting donations for various local charities like angels of Long Island, Brookhaven animal shelter or the Brookhaven ecology sites summer camp…LeeAnn is there.

LeeAnn has helped so many throughout the years, please consider returning the favor and help to ease the financial hardship that she will face over the upcoming year with her recovery from a double mastectomy. Let’s come together and try to lift at least one burden off of her shoulders as much as we can.

If all you can do is share this fundraiser to help spread the word for her that would be greatly appreciated.
A huge thank you goes to the generous caring community that has and continues to support LeeAnn during this time of hardship.
