Urgent! The Smith Family Needs Our Help! UPDATE!
Donation protected
We are very moved and grateful to receive such a tremendous response from all of you. I am asking that your generosity will continue as Sheila will not give up even under these terrible circumstances. Due to everyone's support she is able to continue to fight! God Bless You All!
Update from Pat:
Hello, first, we wish to thank all of you. If not for your prayers, thoughts and generosity our chances of being here as a family this Christmas would be very slim indeed. Last fall Sheila ended up with blood clotting in her leg and a pulmonary embolism in both lungs. The wonderful staff at St. Joseph's treated her and placed an IVC filter in her as a precaution for the next several months. During her fight over the past few months, her mobility has been very diminished and she is bed bound right now. We are trying to get more P.T. and O.T. sessions approved with the insurance company in hope that she can gain some of her core strength back to allow her to sit up. It is such a struggle of ups and downs. Our goal is for her to eventually be able to use a wheelchair. Getting from home to her infusion and other appointments is very painful for her. Any recommendations regarding affordable stretcher transport would really be appreciated. We are attempting to participate in a new trial. A medication called AOH1996 as it sounds very promising. We reached out to her oncology team for guidance.
Meanwhile, we continue to pray. We really appreciate the outpouring of hope, love and generosity that everyone has bestowed upon us! We really do feel blessed. Wishing you all a very happy, healthy Christmas and Holiday Season as we wrap up 2023.
Update: I want to thank the folks who have donated. Your generosity has helped tremendously! Not having a huge financial burden has made such a difference in their life during this unexpected tragedy. Sheila is receiving physical therapy and it has really been helping strengthen her right side. She can lift her arm up and move her right leg. The at Home care team has been awesome as well and have been motivating Sheila to work on the PT and OT drills between appointments. We are still praying for a miracle and Sheila does not have any plans on giving up. Once her radiation is up, we are looking at the Optune device that she will be wearing 24-7. Hoping we can find a trial to get on during that as well.
Thanks to all for your generosity and support that she is able to receive this care. I will keep you updated. Please keep praying for Sheila.
This beautiful family desperately needs our help. Sheila was diagnosed with inoperable terminal brain cancer a little over a month ago. It came out of nowhere, was very unexpected and is progressing rapidly. It's completely devastating!! She is immobile and unable to use one side of her body. This is a desperate situation and they need help. Her constant at home medical care is not covered by their health insurance. Of course she is now unable to work so half the family income is gone. Creating even more hardship and trauma during this tragic time. Pat has a new job and has not accrued enough time to take a long enough paid leave, so he is trying to continue working as much as possible while taking care of Sheila. They have a wonderful 14-year-old son, Sean who is going to be starting High School in a couple of weeks. He's an honor roll student and this is hitting him very hard and the days to come will be even harder. Their world has been turned upside down. Please help this family in any way you can, no amount is too small because it all adds up. I have known Pat for 50 years and he has never asked anyone for anything, so I am asking for him. Please share this.
Thank you and God Bless you.
Sincerely, The Smith Family
