Miracle for Delilah Jean
My beautiful niece Delilah Jean was born 5weeks premature on Jan 4th, 2015 at 10:33am. She is 4lbs 14oz. and 18in long. She came home 2days after she was born in good faith that she was well and healthy. The next day she had a temp. of 94.0 which raised suspicions due to the fact that anything under 95 degrees is considered hypothermic. On the 3rd day, we went to the doctor apt for a checkup. Once again her temp was 94.0 and we reported to the doctor she had only ate 20cc for the entire day. Which a healthy baby eats 30cc every two hours. He was concerned that she could have an infection and said to keep an eye on her temp. throughout the night. Unfortunately, her temp kept getting lower so they rushed her to the ER. At the hospital her temp was so low that it did not even register. They gave her antivirals and antibotics because her head was cautiously enlarged to 41cm and we found out she had jaundice. Delilah was so dehydrated that they were not able to draw blood from any part of her body including her head or perform a spinal tap. They moved Delilah to PICU and she was IMC status due to her symptoms. They gave her fluids through a IV and gave her a feeding tube which rehydrated her. They were finally able to do a spinal tap on her after 3 tries. The results of the spinal tap showed she had inflammation in her spinal fluid and her white blood cell count was 200 when it should have been 35, which indicated that she had an infection in her brain. The infectious disease doctor came in and gave the news that DJ had meningitis. They now have increased the amount she is fed through the feeding tube from 5cc to 12cc every hour. Today she had MRI to see if there is any potential brain damage...we are still frantically waiting for those results. Both parents have been at the hospital since Jan 8th and both have dropped their classes for school and have not been able to work. The doctors say they will be here at least for the next 3weeks for DJ's treatment. Anything would be greatly appreciated and will be put toward our Lil' Peanuts hospital bills, parking passes, gas and food.
If not able to financially assist, please just say a prayer for our family.
