Nick's Fight Against Brain Cancer
Donation protected
On Jan 1 of 2012, Cheryl and Nick were snowboarding. That was the first day Nick said he was having a 'weird' headache. Their daughter Kennedy turned 1 on Jan 11 and at her birthday party he was still complaining of the headaches. The HA continued and he saw some docs about it but because he wasn't having any neurological deficites, so no one thought anything of it. While at work on Feb 8, 2012 (about a month into the HAs) he had a focal seizure which then bought him an MRI the next day, February 9. He was home for about 20 minutes from that appt and we got a call to go back to the hospital. This is when we found out the bad news. He was diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma- Malignant Brain Cancer.
He had two surgeries February 23 and 26. After the 2 week hospital stay and surgery recovery, he started his 6 weeks of radiation treatment that was completed in the beginning of May. He then did some rehab and returned to work in November of 2012 after a full recovery.
Nick had a recurrence in April of 2015 which was treated with gamma knife. Now this recurrence which has progressed in a multi-focal pattern including the thalamus and corpus collosum. He's been doing really well until this last image on January 19 2016. After speaking with the surgeons they had to face the hard truth that surgical resection is not an option anymore. Nick just started Chemotherapy.
Nick is a doting father to Kennedy (5) and Caleb (2) and loving husband to Cheryl. If you know this family, I am sure you have been touched by them in some way- it’s impossible not to love them. Right now they need your help!!!
Nick’s quiet strength and courage throughout this entire process, are well known to his friends and family. He is a selfless person who has a tough road ahead of him. I know he would take great comfort in knowing his family is being provided for while its unclear when/if Nick will return to work. Please donate whatever you can to help the Larson family in this time of need. The last thing I want this amazing family to worry about is money,
Thank you for your prayers and support.
