On September 27, 2019 for The Johnson Family the unimaginable happened. They lost their father & husband and we lost a friend and star parent.... Clay Johnson.
Update: Fast forward a two months, the holidays are upon us and we can't help but still have this family in our hearts and prayers. Thinking of the holiday traditions that will go unmet because part of the soul of their family is missing. Alexis has been such a trooper keeping her kids as the primary focus. But I would be remised if we didn't acknowledge that the need is still a reality for them. So in this season of giving please keep The Johnson Family in mind. Keep them in your prayers and thoughts as they continue to brave the world one day at a time without Clay. They are humbled by the generosity and thoughtfulness of community.
Clay and his wife, Alexis, are parents to five beautiful children and have been active members of the Drew Community for years. Clay's death was sudden and totally unexpected. The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. The result of which has left Alexis being, a single parent to 5 children Caylin- 7, Logan- 4, who attend Drew Charter Elementary, Declan- 21 months who attends East Lake Early Learning Academy, Neenah- 22, and Kennedy- 16, (her bonus children from Clay.)
The Johnsons’ have always said they are “a family of service.” There is a proverb that says if our actions spoke to who we are then we would not need words. Looking at the Johnson’s actions they always showed up for Drew. Be it PTA, being room parent, Drew Dads, volunteering in the community, for festivals, fundraisers, parent councils, school activities, functions, working with nonprofits, picking up a neighbor’s child anything really…. you could count on them. Alexis and Clay have always stepped up for the Drew Community. They never hesitated to volunteer whenever needed.
It’s time for us to show up for them because in doing so we are also showing up for each other. When one of us in our community is grieving, we all are. The unthinkable has happened but they are encouraged by our support.
Thank you for all those who have asked how to help. This is how we show our community in action.
Let’s be a resource to the Johnson Family by donating (any amount will help) to ease them into this new normal. The eventuality of death is something we all know we’ll have to deal with, but the unexpected suddenness of this tragedy has made the impact even more painful.
The reality is Alexis is now a young widow, single mom whose husband was the sole breadwinner of the household. She is working tirelessly to make sure her “children’s foundation does not falter.”
Parenting has its own set of challenges even under the best of circumstances. Add in the unexpected loss of such an essential part of their family and it becomes layered with difficulties.
Clay was an active, frequently seen (with his kids & others) member of the Drew family, and coach of his son Logan’s soccer team. Clay was an exceptional father. He and Alexis formed an idyllic, amazing family. Simply stated, the Johnson family & our community has lost an irreplaceable man.
This letter is an appeal, to our community, to establish a " Go Fund Me " campaign & fund, for the benefit of Alexis Johnson and her children. On Sunday September 29th instead of celebrating their wedding anniversary, in the depth of grief Alexis & the Johnson family instead donated Clay's organs giving the gift of life to others sparing their families such grief.
A hero even in death. Let’s show up for Clay Johnson and his family a gentle lion in the Drew Community.
A " Go Fund Me " fund, would be a significant contributor towards the maintenance and rebuilding of this family. Of course, ALL proceeds will go directly to The Johnson Family.
LET'S DO THIS.... TOGETHER. Thank you and God bless you.”
