500 Bibles in 12 days: impossible?
We don't think so. . .
As Christians in the United States, something we take for granted every day, is easy access to a Bible. Here in Blantyre, Malawai a Bible in the native language of Chichewa, is much more difficult to come by. So much so that it's even difficult for pastors to buy their own Bibles. We are a team of 7 missionaries serving here who want to change that.
We are apart of a missions program called The World Race, run by Adventures in Missions. We are traveling to 11 countries in 11 months. Time here in Blantyre, Malawi is precious as we have just over two weeks left in this country.
Bibles here cost around $11 USD per Bible or 5,000 Kwacha (the Malawian currency), which may not sound like a lot of money, but it's actually the equivalent of nearly 1/3 of an average Malawian's month's wages.
As a group of Christians from the U.S. we believe that we must live with an abundance mentality, giving generously where we can. And what better way to be generous and spread the gospel than to be able to provide Bibles for a people that have a deep desire to praise and worship the Lord, but do not have the ability to own their own Bible in their own language.
Our goal is to hand over 500 Bibles to Pastor Ghent and the people of the Churches of Bethel Chapel Mission around the Blantyre area by January 25th. This would cost us $5,500 for all 500 Bibles in Chichewa.
WE HAVE LESS THAN 2 WEEKS TO ACQUIRE THESE FUNDS as we will be moving to our next country soon. So, please share this opportunity with everyone you know!
In addition to Bibles, another need for the main church of Bethel Chapel Mission is for chairs or benches for the congregation, who are still mostly sitting on mats on the ground. They run nearly $9 a piece, and any money raised past the $5,500 we need for the Bibles will go towards purchasing this secondary need.
We are so very excited for this opportunity and grateful for your support of our mission as we carry out the Lord's work! Thank you and God Bless!
