Help Mama Harriet Fight Lupus
Donation protected
Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Mama Harriet in Uganda, Africa or in the United States knows her contagious joy and genuine love for everyone. She was an elementary school teacher in Uganda and has worked hard to care for her family and countless others. She has hosted multiple foreign exchange students in her home in Uganda and has cared for many orphans. Recently she came to the United States to nanny for a family temporarily. While there she became very ill.
Over the past nine months, she has been incredibly sick and unable to work. After multiple visits to specialists, countless tests and procedures, emergency room visits, and a hospital stay, she was finally diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematous or Lupus for short. This is an autoimmune disease that is attacking her kidneys. The nephrologist (kidney doctor) explained that if she did not receive proper treatment, she would not live another year.
Although there has been some permanent damage done to her kidneys, she is now receiving proper treatment that is helping improve her condition. Long-term treatment in Uganda will be necessary to maintain her health. Many specialists and medical facilities were very generous and gave her free or discounted care, but some medical costs still accrued. We are raising money to cover the cost of her medical bills, her plane ticket to return to Uganda, and some of the costs of ongoing medical treatment and living expenses in Uganda.
She would appreciate your prayers and generosity towards this goal! Will you help Mama Harriet live many more healthy years to come?
