10k Run 4 Adam: Beat Prion Disease
Donation protected
We have never done a fundraiser before, but we couldn't think of a better reason to do one now. One of our best friends from college, Brinden (Asher) Wohlstattar recently found herself in the position that none of us wish upon anyone. Her 38 year old husband and father to their 3 1/2 year old son, Adam Wohlstattar, has begun showing signs of a rare and rapid moving dimensia. They noticed he was beginning to have trouble with his language and motor skills. Then on June 10th, 2014 he became diagnosed with an illness called Prion Disease: an extremely rare, genetic neurodegenerative disease that currently has a fatal life expectancy of 6-10 years upon diagnosis. Adam recently learned that Prion disease killed his birth father when he was 47 and his two half-brothers when they were in their 30's and early 40's.
Adam Wohlstattar has been an assistant principal at Valley View Middle School in Simi Valley, but had to recently step down as his symptoms began worsening and affecting his ability to work.
This is where we come in. We, Sandra Osterman, Robyn Pottorff and Heather Harris, are going to run a 10K for Adam on February 14th in San Francisco to help raise money to support Brinden and Adam. They have hope, we have hope, and we know as well as anyone that miracles can happen. The money raised will help them through the financial hardships they have endured as a result of the illness; will be used to help fund medical expenses, and go towards Prion Disease research. UCSF has given them hope as there are trials on the radar that Adam could participate in for medications that may halt the disease in its tracks. Wouldn't that be awesome! We want to help him get there! Please consider donating to help this amazing family by sponsoring Sandra, Robyn and Heather on their 10k race on February 14th.
