Cancer Care for Carol

Our beloved friend and godmother, Carol Houlihan, was diagnosed with aggressive, squamous cell tonsil cancer this summer.  While chemotherapy, radiation, and surgeries are very familiar to  Carol, who lives with lymphoma and has survived breast cancer, she will need to walk through a cancer treatment plan that is as aggressive as the cancer itself.

Our goal is to create a care plan that will support Carol through the treatment required for her tonsil cancer, and treatment to follow for lymphoma in the pelvis (the cancerous pelvic lymph-node was discovered through the recent diagnosis process).

Here is what she's been told to expect and what is involved in the treatment and related-care needed: 
-3-5 x week pre-treatment onsite visits for treatment procedures and preparation
-24 hour care through 7 weeks of back-to-back radiation and chemotherapy
- Teeth Removal and Dentures
- Part time care for an additional 10 weeks to follow for after-care 
-feeding tube
-mold fitting for thermoplastic mask required for radiation treatment
-outpatient surgery before and after


Carol has asked that we share a few words from her: 
" I've never asked anyone for anything and have always tried to help everyone in every way that I could. My mother always said to me, 'you give everything away; you should save for a rain day, but today it feels like a thunderstorm.'

Years ago, I wrote a poem; I'd like to share with you: 

As I walk upon the Earth today,
I shall look for a single act of kindness,
peace of harmony, expressed by another
