On Monday, August 7th, Dale went into the Urgent Care thinking he might have pneumonia. Blood tests indicated that he might have blood clots in his lungs so they sent him in for a CT scan. However, after reviewing the CT scan they were suspicious that he may have lung cancer. Shortly after his Urgent Care visit, he was admitted to the hospital to monitor him because his platelet count was severely low and he was developing multiple bruises. He also had a lung biopsy.
On Monday, August 21st, Dale had his PET scan. He and Kathy met with the Oncologist on Tuesday, August 22nd to get his results from both his biopsy and scan. They were told that Dale has Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer that has spread to both lungs, throughout his skeleton, some spots on his liver, and some lymph nodes. His prognosis is not good and this is very difficult to take in.
Dale was admitted back into the hospital August 25th because his cough from the lung biopsy procedure was not getting better. His blood levels continue to be unstable due to the lung cancer. The doctors felt that chemotherapy needed to start right away so he had his first round on August 26th.
Because chemotherapy tends to lower blood platelet levels and since his levels are already low, they will be keeping him in the hospital for seven to ten days. This will allow them to closely monitor his levels and watch for any sporadic bleeds that could occur.
Dale is unable to work at this time and Kathy needs to take time off during his hospitalization and treatments to give him the best possible outcome. Your support will help them offset medical bills and missed wages. They very much appreciate your financial help, thoughts, prayers and support. It will bring them a little more strength, determination and healing. Thank you!
