Support for Don Berger (Daddy)

My dad has been a type 1 diabetic since he was 9-years-old. I have watched him encounter and overcome so many health problems over the 21 years I have been alive. He is my hero and my best friend. On Saturday, December 2nd, he was admitted to UPMC East of Monroeville after enduring issues involving deadly blood sugar levels and advanced kidney disease. Although the staff was kind, they continued to put off dialysis and treatment for him. They even denied him his proper insulin dosages. The poor guy sat in the hospital for a week only being “observed” and given no actual treatment. The following Saturday at 2AM, he went into cardiac arrest for 20 minutes, after a heart attack and was life flighted to UPMC Presbyterian. Although we almost lost him, his current staff has been going well out of their way to make sure he is taken care of. While at Presby, he has been sedated, temporarily paralyzed, flipped on his stomach to drain a lung infection, placed on continuous dialysis, and even diagnosed with pneumonia. We have seen some progress but he has a long way to go. This is the third heart attack that he has survived. As of now, he has no idea what has happened but he has been receiving prayers and good thoughts from people around the country of many diverse religious faiths. However, my parents do not have a large income and he already possessed numerous medical and prescription bills prior to this. I am worried that when he wakes up and finds out what happened, that he will make himself even more sick by worrying about how he will pay for the care he received. I was hoping to ease that burden a bit by raising a bit of money to assist my parents and show them how much he (they) are loved. I don’t want either of them to know that I have created this fundraiser so please be sure to block them both from seeing it if you share the page (Message me if you do not know how to do this). But please consider showing the greatest man in my life a little support. And please, above all else, pray for him to continue to heal. His life is more precious than any medical bill could ever charge.
