Jah'Licia Murray

Good evening everyone! I am starting a fundraising for my 17-year-old daughter Jah'Licia. I'm reaching out to tell her story because she has the opportunity to go to Boston, Massachusetts and has been nominated for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence. This award is for her outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine. She's the oldest of five children currently enrolled in dual enrollment at Early College High School taking college classes as a junior in high school, straight A student with a 4.6 GPA. Once she graduates not only with her high school diploma but a sociates degree as well.

Jah'Licia has a deadline of March 16, 2023 to raise $5,000 which will cover her tuition, overnight programs, airfare, hotel fee, and food for her length of stay. She would love to have this experience because it gives her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring her closer to her future dream career to be the first female Marine Biologist from the state of Tennessee. She wants to be a marine biologist because she's always loved the ocean since she was a little girl and is fascinated by the aquatic animals that live deep in the ocean. With 5% of the ocean being discovered, she wants to explore and uncover the other 95% that has yet to be discovered. Her seeing the ocean the way it is makes her want to make it better for the animals to live there due to it being polluted as we've all seen on the news channel.

Another reason for this fundraising is that when she becomes a marine biologist, Jah'Licia says she wants to help me take care of her four younger siblings. I'm the only one who's been my children's support team, despite being a single mother I quit my job to be a stay-at-home mom to support my children with what they wanted to do in the field of sports (basketball, football, majorette, rack, etc.), and to help them reach their academic goals. Most things Jah'Licia and her siblings do now, they wouldn't have been able to do had I not encouraged them to step out of their comfort zone to do the things they love.

Over the years of Jah'Licia's childhood, she's watched me struggle, trying my best to make sure my children stayed intact and made sure everything was okay within their household. Jah'Licia has also struggled for the past few years due to the death of my sister being hit by an 18-wheeler truck, a major knee surgery causing Jah'Licia to have her ACL replaced and being in a wheelchair for a while and not being able to attend my sister's funeral.
