Darrell Jones - Finally Free
Donation protected
Darrell Jones, a friend of mine, impressed us Jesuits during his stay with us when one evening he asked us to pray for him to be able to forgive those who put him in prison for 32 years of his life. He had been freed through the tireless work of the Innocence Program of Massachusetts. A few days before Christmas of 2018 a judge voided his conviction, citing perjured testimony by a detective and racial bias on the part of one of the jurors. Mr. Jones was freed on bail and sent out of prison with only the prison clothes he was wearing that day and no money. That's why he was staying in the Jesuit community.
For the past year and a half Mr. Jones has been living under threat of retrial by the District Attorney’s office in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. As a result, he could not get a job because his criminal record noted that his case was pending.
On June 12, 2019, a jury of his peers declared that Darrell Jones was not guilty of the murder. It was a great day for Darrell and for all those who love him.
Now, after 33 years, he is finally free. However, he needs help to begin his new life. I am asking you to consider contributing any amount you can so that he can begin his new life with some money in the bank. We are seeking $25,000 to give him a start.
Are you in a position to help?
Mr. Jones has repeatedly said in media interviews that he wants to help others who are in the position he was in and also to contribute to efforts to move our country beyond the racism that still plagues us as a nation.
Thank you for your attention and your generosity.
