Saint Baldricks
Donation protected
My name is Rinda, and I am a participant in a fundraiser for an organization called the Saint Baldrick's Foundation.
I participate in this foundation because of a close, personal loss. In Febuary of 2012, I watched my older brother Rick battle with colon cancer, and unfortunately, even though he fought with everything he had, the cancer won. Rick was not a child, but cancer sucks no matter who gets it.
Shortly after he passed, I heard of Saint Baldrick's - an organization that raises money to fight against childhood cancers and work towards a cure. It couldn't be more fitting - I knew I had to go bald for Rick for Saint Baldricks. I have since participated annually.
During this fundraiser, participants shave their heads, and shavees have the option to donate the hair, which many people choose to do. The purpose of this is to make children feel more comfortable with their beautiful bald head - to feel less alone - and to raise awareness and funds for the foundation.
Funds are raised via donators who sponsor the shavee. Last year I was able to raise $500.00 from my sponsors for the foundation, so this year, I would like to out do my best, and have set a goal of $550.00. Please join me in helping to stomp out childhood cancer.
Shaving is happening on March 21st.
