Help a Cancer Warrior continue supporting the Kids Hi there, I’m Paul, a 45 year old man, with two children and two brain tumours, a difficult sentence even to type. It all started in 2013 with just the 1, and I have been looked after by the neurology team at Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge until recently. After the initial surgery I was given five years, and here I am (albeit 8 surgeries later) heading into my 11th year.

I have two beautiful daughters J and S, at 10 and 9 years old, and it is this, and my determination not to be defined by my illness that has got me this far living with cancer. After regaining my licence from the DVLA after 5 years without, and routine scans to check my progress, it was a shopping trip that was cut short by the horrible news of a second tumour, this time on my Brain stem. They are important right?

With a shunt fitted, and radiotherapy treatment given, I was delighted to report that things had come under control. I got my driving licence back, only to be told the tumour was growing, and chemotherapy was the way forward. Temozolomide, PCV, and variations in between, I have tried them all, and still this little monster keeps growing. As Addenbrooke’s gently cut me loose, saying that there is nothing more they can do, I spoke to my consultant, ‘you have got me this far, please don’t give up on me now!’ He gave me the contract details of a colleague in London, and so the next step to surviving cancer was taken.

I’m trying a private immunotherapy treatment called Avastin, to control the side effects of a second round of radiotherapy at the London Clinic. All done in Charing Cross hospital. I have 30 trips to and from London, and the dreaded £1500 a go for the Avastin treatment. Perhaps with your help, I might be a father to my little girls, and a husband to my new wife for a little longer - I’d like to try.. Please know that your donations may outlast me, but when the time comes, it will be shared between the children to give them the best start in life, which they both deserve. Thank you for your compassion, time, and hopefully support, let’s see if we can hit my 12th year as a CANCER WARRIOR, Thank you for for your time, and generosity.
