Scouting for Scholarships in Uganda
There is an abundance of untaped athletic talent in East Africa and especially in Kampala, Uganda where many tall, gifted South Sudanese refugees with potential want to use basketball as a vehicle to further their education at high schools, colleges and universities all around the world. Dankind Academy aims to build an academy for the next generation in the near future but at the moment the path for current prospects to succeed lies with them making the journey to schools mainly in the USA.
With funding we will be able to buy filming equipment to film and post individual highlight videos on YouTube after consistent ongoing sessions that we set up and host during school vacations in both Kampala, Uganda and Juba, South Sudan over the next 2 years.
The idea is that coaches at institutions with basketball programs around the globe can see these videos and decide whether they would like to pursue assisting certain student athletes here in East Africa with full athletic scholarships.
Our job will not only be to host the sessions, film and create the highlights but also help and guide the young aspiring student athletes through the process of gathering their documents and filling out the appropriate paperwork for visas such as i20 visas while assisting them on getting to their medical check ups and preparing for interviews at the U.S consulate. We also make sure that Skype conversations can be arranged between the coaches and families and are always available to answer questions for both parties concerning and part of the student visa process and these kids going to live abroad.
So far in the past year Dankind Academy has helped 10 athletes acquire scholarships in California, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky in the USA and in Japan. With funding we will be able to increase this number exponentially.
Raising these funds will allow us to continue assisting the youth while continuing with the long term goals of Dankind Academy which you can find out more about by following us on social media:
