This is my dog, Harvey! He arrived in Vancouver a little less than 2 years ago. He came from Kuwait where he was rescued from a market, where a group of people were stoning him. He was caked in mud, afraid and had no future. But, he was saved by a group of people who had all of his health needs looked after. They sheltered him and raised the $2,000+ it took to care for him until they could find him a home, and then send him to Canada. In the 2 short years he has been here, Harvey has become a loving and trusting dog. Like many deserving animals in Kuwait, all Harvey needed was a chance!

There is no doubt that Kuwait has a problem with stray dogs. A lack of public education, and generations of no consideration of animals has resulted in a lot of abandoned dogs that end up on the streets to fend for themselves. Many of these were gifts as puppies, but when they grow up, they are no longer wanted and are discarded in the street. These dogs then have litters that will also have to grow up fending for themselves and fighting for their lives on the streets of Kuwait. Because of the lack of respect for their lives, these dogs face a bleak future. Dogs there are treated horrifically.  The favorite place for animal abuse is the Friday Market where the illegal dog fights take place. Dogs are used as bait for the fights to show how vicious the Pit Bulls are, to up the betting. These dogs are literally torn to shreds while the spectators watch and laugh, including the police.

The government's current "solution" to the problem is now poisoning the dogs. They have left poisoned food out in the streets and desert, and many strays have died a very slow and painful death this way. Not only is it inhumane, but poison is indiscriminate. It poses a threat to people's pets, wild animals and also children.

To date there have been over 200 dogs and cats rescued off the street and sent to new homes.  The funds needed to send them to new, loving homes are raised from private individuals to send them to new, loving homes. Each dog costs about $1500 to ship to North America.

Please help us to make a difference in the lives of more animals from Kuwait!
