KA Alumni: Masks for Healthcare Workers in Malawi
Donation protected
Help us to achieve our urgent goal of protecting healthcare workers in Malawi from COVID-19.
We are former students of Kamuzu Academy in Malawi who recognise the immense privilege of our founding father’s vision and the responsibility to give back to our society.
Malawi is the 5th poorest country in the world and has a population of nearly 18 million looked after by 600 medical doctors and 4500 qualified nurses. This translates into 1 doctor per 30,000 people compared to an average of 1 doctor per 330 people in the EU.
Malawi reported the first Covid-19 infections on 2nd April 2020. With predicted infection rates approaching 80% of the population, we can’t afford our doctors to get sick. The funds raised will be used to procure masks for healthcare staff, enable a task force of alumni to distribute masks to hospitals and health centres, and contribute to sourcing other PPE.
