Help Bring Don (Haid) Home
Donation protected
This is difficult for me to do for many reasons (pride, independence, stubborness - it's the German in me), however; my parents have always worked so hard to give my brother and I the things we needed. It is because of their strong work ethic, unconditional love and support that we have become who we are today. Now it's time for us to do everything we can to help them. I wish I had enough money to make our current situation easier, but I do not. I can only give my love, support and time.
As those of you who are close to our family may already know, my dad, Don Haid, is nearing the final stage of life. He has many medical conditions and complications that have required our family to face yet another heartbreak this year. My dad is currently at Sparrow Hospital resting comfortably. Insurance will only pay for him to stay until Friday morning when we, as a family, have to make the toughest decision we have ever had to make - bring him home to live out his final days or send him to a hospice facility (which, oddly enough, insurance will cover). My mom, brother and I know that my dad's preference is to be comfortable in his own home. He has voiced this over the past few days. We would like to make this happen for him. However, his insurance will not cover in-home nursing care. My mom, being the devoted, selfless, loving wife and mother that she is, wants to care for my dad in their home. She cannot afford to do so without financial help. She is currently on FMLA from work, but her time off is all unpaid. She has used up all of her vacation time this year to help me with my daughter when my fiance unexpectedly passed away in January and to take my dad to/from medical appointments. My brother and I help when we are able, but with Andy's career and living over an hour away and me being a full-time working single mom, we can only do so much. Andy and I will be able to help out in the home at various times throughout the week, but my mom would be the primary care provider (per her wishes to care for her husband).
I would like to do all that I can to help my parents during this difficult time for my family, including providing my mom the financial support she needs to care for my dad until his final breath in the home that they've shared for 37 years.
If you are unable to offer monetary support, please say a prayer for my parents. Especially, for peace and comfort for my dad. Thank you to all of the friends and family that have offered words of support. Many of you have asked, "What do you need?...What can I do?". This is the last thing my mom, Andy and I can do for my dad with your help...we can bring Don home. XOXO
