Kabaka Birthday Run - Staying at Home, Fight against HIV epidemic in Uganda
Kabaka’s Birthday Run is an annual event organised by Buganda Kingdom to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II King (Kabaka) of Buganda Kingdom. The proceeds from these runs go towards chosen humanitarian causes.
Last year (2019) Buganda UK and Ireland organised their first similar run in London and raised £1,259 towards the supporting of people living with Sickle Cell anaemia in Uganda.
In the current Coronavirus/ Covid-19 environment, this year’s Kabaka's Birthday Run events have been cancelled. However, the vulnerable people who benefit from the funds raised through these runs still need our generous support. The chosen cause for 2020 is Fighting HIV/AIDs in Uganda.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports on HIV/AIDs
Since the beginning of the epidemic, 75 million people have been infected with the HIV virus and about 32 million people have died of HIV. Globally, 37.9 million people were living with HIV at the end of 2018. An estimated 0.8% of adults aged 15–49 years worldwide are living with HIV, although the burden of the epidemic continues to vary considerably between countries and regions. The WHO African region remains most severely affected, with nearly 1 in every 25 adults (3.9%) living with HIV and accounting for more than two-thirds of the people living with HIV worldwide.
