Kadence's Top Surgery Recovery Fund

Hello friends, family, and community -
We have some BIG NEWS...
Kadence (they/them) has finally been approved and scheduled for gender-affirming top surgery; on March 22, 2023!
A Quick Word from Kadence:
I want to share a bit about why this surgery, and your support, will be life-changing for me as a Black Non-Binary Trans and Queer human.
I didn't grow up having terms or examples to help me make sense of some of the things I felt. I never thought I'd have access to gender-affirming care, but here I am, now receiving the healthcare I've always needed; Starting testosterone has easily been one of the highlights of my life.
It happened immediately; From the first gel application, I felt a shift in my outlook and began to recognize the exciting possibilities that lie ahead on this journey.
I used to describe my gel applications as "applying my superpowers"; Now, my shot day is always my favorite day of the week.
I've spent 5 1/2 months on T, and I've already noticed so many physical changes. And while I couldn't be happier, the internal changes are even more exciting for me.
Most notably, there has been a boost in my confidence, which has to be the best change. I used to go out of my way to avoid mirrors, but now I can't pull myself away. I'm frequently checking out my incoming facial hair. Looking into the mirror and slowly seeing my true self coming into focus as time passes is a gift I'll always cherish.
I'm now ready to be at a point where my reflection matches what I've always seen when I close my eyes. Top surgery will give me that chance to feel connected to my body, and I can't wait to experience that.
Why We Are Fundraising
As you may know, Kadence is the sole owner and operator of Bet on Black Pet Care.
You may also be aware that this is a significant surgery with a 6-8 week recovery time. Given the nature of their work, they have been firmly told they need the entire eight weeks of recovery before returning to work with their puppo pals!
As Kadence's partner and most local family, I will need to take time away from my small business to provide post-surgery care. As a disabled person, this will also take a significant toll on me, limiting my ability to put energy toward what will be our sole income for those two months.
With that, we need help fundraising to cover our cost of living for those two months of recovery.
Our Financial Breakdown
- Rent for two months ($2400)
- Car Note for two months ($900)
- Groceries support ($650)
- Utilities for two months - Gas, Electric, Internet ($470)
- Recovery Medical Supplies + Monthly Medications ($180)
- Gas support ($125)
- Incidentals ($275)
What Happens If You Don't Utilize All The Funds?
This is a GREAT question. Our family is very invested in our community and has agreed any unused fund will be equally split and donated to three community organizations serving queer, trans, and gender-diverse individuals and families. These orgs are Translate Gender, gen-Q, and Wildflower Alliance.
