Kaelyns NYLF Medical College Course

I am Engelina Pijnappels, mother of Kaelyn Wheeler, who has been nominated to represent Palmer Ridge High School at the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine for 2017. Their selection of her was based upon her academic excellence, leadership potential, and an interest in a career in medicine. This program will provide Kaelyn with a unique experience in the world of medicine enabling her to confirm her desire to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

During this 9 day program she will visit  a state of the art medical simulation center with a hands on experience in a variety of medical procedures and technologies.  She will see a total knee replacement surgery broadcast with a surgeon talking through the procedure. The cirriculum also features an emergency medical training workshop.  This program is held in nine different cities across the U.S. She will visit a prominent medical school, talk to medical students and staff who will share their experience, provide prospective on the culture of medical school and an awareness of the key success factors that are critical for a career in medicine.

Tuition for this opportunity is $3,695 plus travel, one meal a day, $200 to receive two college credits through George Mason University and incidentals. This is why we have set a goal to raise $6,000. Every little bit helps to get her one step closer to experience this amazing opportunity.  I am a working single mother doing my best to provide a rewarding life for Kaelyn as she excels in everything she strives for.  Kaelyn is now a sophomore, but finished her freshman year ranked #1 out of 292 students in her class, supported by a 4.0 GPA with a 99.66 percentile.

The final enrollment date is Decmber 9th 2016. At this time a deposit of $499 is required with payments of $599 or more for 6 months. The tuition varies depending on where she chooses to go. Ideally I would have the full amount by December 9th. If my goal isn't reached by then, I could make the initial deposit and extend the date to January 10, 2017 before the first $599 payment is due.

Being able to provide this opportunity for my daughter Kaelyn would be extremely rewarding not only for me but for her. She works so hard everyday to maintain outstanding grades. Children in this generation are faced with so many challenges and distractions and she somehow prioritizes scholastics over everything else. She deserves this and we will be extremely grateful  if she is given the chance to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity.
