Kaiden King’s Fight against Leukemia

Kaidens journey began on January 29, 2021 when a medical office visit led to the most heart breaking news a family would ever want to hear. We were diagnosed with ALL Leukemia. I went completely numb. This couldn’t be true! My son is only four years old. How are we going to face this? In that moment, I felt helpless, confused, and overwhelmed. We were admitted into Children’s Hospital of Alabama and started chemotherapy immediately. I quickly went into denial as facing his illness has become not only emotionally challenging but painful to say the least. Watching my son go through blood transfusions, many nights of bone pain, weekly trips to the hospital for treatments, lumbar punctures, headaches, stomach aches, and a host of other symptoms has been extremely difficult to handle. His illness has affected my mental and physical health so much to where I am in counseling myself in order to learn how to cope. We have a long journey ahead of us as Kaiden will be in treatment for at least three years. Not only has this taken a toll on my family it has also attacked us financially. I am on an unpaid leave from work so that I can care for my son. Kaiden is such a ray of sunlight. He is always smiling and very much joyous. He has been so strong and I am inspired daily by his strength. We are going to beat this and I pray his testimony will also help encourage someone else.
