Kailey's Journey
Donation protected
If you are from the Averill Park area, you probably know or have heard of this beautiful young lady and her love of horses. Kailey is an amazing 14-year-old girl who always has a smile on her face. Kailey graduated from Algonquin Middle School and will enter her Freshman year this fall. Recently, Kailey and her Family received news that turned their world upside down. After a weekend horse show/competition, Kailey was experiencing headaches, neck pain and fatigue. Thankfully she was seen by her pediatrician, who ordered an MRI because Kailey was scheduled to compete with her horses that next weekend. During the MRI, it was discovered that Kailey had a tumor in her brain that was blocking the flow of her spinal fluid, causing pressure. She was immediately sent to Albany Medical Center, where she underwent emergency brain surgery. Although the surgery was a success and the tumor was removed, reports showed it was cancerous and had spread to her spine. Due to the diagnosis, the next phase of care is radiation therapy with aggressive chemotherapy for the following year. Her initial treatment will start in NYC for seven weeks as soon as possible.
As you can imagine, this has taken a toll on Kailey and her family emotionally and financially. Although the insurance company will pick up some of the cost of treatment, the expense for the stay in NYC will be astronomical. The money raised will go towards expenses that will quickly add up and provide assistance to the family to defray some of the costs. Anything will help.
Kailey is currently recovering at home, making great strides and waiting for radiation and chemotherapy to begin. As you can see from the picture above, Kailey's best therapy is the love of her horses, and the barn is her "happy place." Her goal is to be back up and riding as soon as possible.
THANK YOU in advance for all the love & generosity. Please keep Kailey and her family in your prayers.
