Kaina's Hip Surgery
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
Meet Kaina, our recently rescued pup. He is around five months old, and the cutest/ugliest little terrier mix you’ll ever see. A few weeks ago, my girlfriend FaceTimed me from work to ask if we could bring home a little puppy that she had rescued. She found him running around in the parking lot in front of her office after several other tenants had shooed him away. Being the sucker that I am (and an animal lover), there wasn’t much more to the discussion than “Sure, bring him home.” That’s when the fun began, lol. It quickly became apparent that he had never been in a home before (the accidents with no remorse and peeing on everything were a dead giveaway). Still, after giving him a bath and a meal, we did our due diligence, brought him to the vet to see if he had a microchip, and searched for any missing animal posts on social media and other sites. There was no microchip and no missing posters, so it looked like we were keeping him, much to everyone’s excitement. After about a week, we noticed that the limp he’d had when we found him hadn’t gotten better, so we took him back to the vet for X-rays $$$. The X-rays revealed that he had received some significant trauma to his pelvis and hip joint that had healed poorly. They recommended that we bring him to a specialist for a better diagnosis. So, of course, we did $$$$. It turns out that he was most likely hit by a car, damaging his hip, and he will need to have surgery. Thankfully, he is fairly small, and the specialist recommended a hip ball and neck excision (they pretty much remove the ball joint from the femur). This will give him full mobility and allow him to run and play without pain. This dog LOVES to play with our pitbull, which is three times his size, and the yelps when his hip gets hit break our hearts. He is a trooper and doesn’t let his injury stop him, but we want to get him fixed. Unfortunately, while this surgery is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than a full hip replacement, it is still expensive, estimated between $4,200 and $4,500. So, in order to get this surgery without having to move out on the streets with the new pup (Kaina did NOT recommend the stray life), we decided to start a GoFundMe to help offset some of the expenses this expensive little pup is gonna cost us. Thank you for everyone’s help with this!
