Hey guys! My name is Brooke, and I am one of Shelby and Bret's best friends.The following is a post from the family as to what is going on. Updates will be posted here as well! Thank you for your support!
"Over the last week, our family has been hit with some pretty difficult news. In an effort to inform as many of the people who are important to us as possible, we’ve decided this is the best way to do so.
On Friday, at the suggestion of her pediatrician, the decision was made to bring one of our twins, Kairi, to Riley Children’s Hospital after a bout of severe pain in her abdomen, lower back, and chest.
Tests and scans were performed around 11pm that night and we were informed she has a late-stage cancerous tumor in her kidney that had metastasized to her lungs, and liver.
Results from a biopsy performed Sunday have revealed this to be a stage 4 Diffuse Anaplastic Wilms Tumor.
During this time, Kairi needs support from us as parents and each of you as friends and extended family. Unfortunately, the hospital is currently operating on flu restrictions and visitation is highly restricted for the safety of all patients and in light of that we will not be able to have anyone visit in-person. They are also asking that no one sends gifts or flowers directly to the hospital. If you would like to send her anything, please get in contact with myself or Bret and we will absolutely make sure she gets them.
We love and appreciate you all in lieu of a mass of text message and phone calls, we ask that condolences, well-wishes, and love be posted here. We will make continued posts as things progress."
