Kaiser Vet fees to save his life

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

i really hate to have to do this but We are now maxed out on our insurance annual limit and have used up what savings we had available and are now in a position where we are trying to drum up the funds for Kais vet fees and medication and any further treatment he may need to save his life.

Below is a general jist of what is going on with him. We appreciate that everyone is falling on hard times at the moment and don’t expect anyone to give anything …especially what they can’t afford, but if you could just donate £1.00 it would
all help towards giving him a chance and if not if you could please share our story to as many people as you can to spread awareness, in the hope it reaches people who are in a position to donate that is all we ask.

I would never like to ask people for anything but my pride has to be put aside to give this boy the chance at life that he deserves.

Kai was due to go into surgery for entropion which is where their eyelids roll inwards and their eyelashes grow into their eyeballs and it is really painful and sore and if left untreated worst case can lead to blindness.

On the day of kaisers operation the anaesthetist who was due to sedate Kaiser noticed he wasn’t breathing in what he would class ‘typical fashion’ they got a second opinion and they also claimed the same and said without further investigation then they will not sedate him.

We decided to move kaiser from the Ophthalmologists team and moved him on to the respiratory and medicine specialist teams within his hospital.

They first suggested we do and X-RAY on his chest which showed lots of shadows and they thought it was a case of pneumonia but seemed odd that he wasn’t showing any other symptoms and should have usually had a rapid decline in health which he wasn’t having.
They then took bloods and urine samples and again showed signs of an infection however he wasn’t changing in behaviour such as drinking/ eating / playing etc.

The specialist called me and said they would like to do a CT SCAN and put a camera down his throat into the lungs to visually see what was happening as none of his results were adding up to how he was acting.

Kaiser was then lightly sedated enough for them to perform the ct scan and the biopsy.
This is when they started to find out pieces of the puzzle that were missing.
When they first looked at the CT SCAN they realised 50 percent of kaisers lungs were white which should be showing black meaning he is only breathing with 50 percent lung capacity.
Next was attempting to put the camera down his throat however was completely unable to do this as he has a paralysed layrnx, the slit is so small they couldn’t get anything down his throat at all to see.

They also had noticed he has BOAS which is extended soft palate in the mouth which stops them from breathing properly.

With the results they found it is likely he is eating a drinking with the same feeling we get when we say something had gone down the wrong hole.
The food and water is going into both his stomach and his lungs and is filling up his lungs and causing infections and bleeding in the lungs.
He doesn’t have the bacteria in his lungs to remove any bacteria so he is getting the equivalent to regurgitation and reflux which we would get. However because of the size of the hole in the layrnx and the soft palate is in the way he is unable to be sick so the food/water bacteria is stuck in the trachea and rots causing more infections/swelling and blockages and in turn causing more difficulty to his breathing.

Due to the severity of the small air way Kai has remaining when they was bringing him round from sedation the risk was so high they prepared for us to say goodbye to him. However our little fighter still made it through and is defying the odds and is getting stronger every day.
He had to be put in into a tank room with high concentrated oxygen for the first 36 hours but he is now out of ICU and started his antibiotics in the hope they can reduce the infection and allow his lungs the chance to repair.

If his lungs repair to enough capacity where he could handle surgery and deal with the paralysed layrnx and his BOAS then we should be all ok and then once these are completed he can move on and have his entropion surgery when he is ready. However if his lungs so not recover and repair enough there is no more we can do for him as his lungs would collapse in surgery and he wouldn’t make it.

Obviously these has been heartbreaking and devastating for us all as a family and we just want whatever is best for him.
He is defying all the odds against him at the moment and we couldn’t be more proud of the fight he is giving. We pray every minute of every day this will all be worth it for him and we are so grateful for every shed of light he has already given us in his short time in our family but that doesn’t stop us from longing for much more time with him and let him grow with our family. ❤️❤️
