Kaitlin's Korner Playground

Kaitlin was a beautiful, seemingly healthy, child with boundless energy and smart as a whip. At age 3, the genetic disease Late Infantile Neuronal Ceriod Lipofuscinosis, commonly known as type 2 Batten Disease, first showed itself in the form of a seizure and slowly took away Kaitlin’s ability to walk, talk and see. Life expectancy of a child with type 2 Batten Disease is 8 -12 years of age.
Kaitlin’s spirit, love of play and innate desire to share is the inspiration for Kaitlin’s Korner. A regressive disease, Kaitlin journeyed through all levels of ability and that experience informed the design of Kaitlin’s Korner. Just as she loved to swing and slide, to spin and twirl, we hope children of all ages and abilities will enjoy the stimulation, fun and interaction a playground offers.
When she took delight in something, Kaitlin, as many children do, would shout, “Again!”
With your help we can create Kaitliln's Korner and children of all abilities can come together to enjoy Kaitlin’s Korner “Again, again and again.”
