Kaitlyn's Medical Fund

Donation protected
Kaitlyn, my 11 year old daughter, was born with a rare type of pterygium syndrome. As a result of this syndrome, Kaitlyn was born with a debilitating defect of her lower left leg with abnormal anatomy of that portion of her leg and foot. The very little muscle she has below the knee along with the abnormal structures in her left foot makes getting around quite a challenge for Kaitlyn. Despite having a nonfunctional and often painful lower left limb, Kaitlyn has defied all odds and has been as active as any other child. Kaitlyn is very active in sports and school activities. She cheers, plays softball with the Huguenot Little League, and she swims with the Greenfield Gremlins and absolutely loves every minute of it. Kaitlyn is also an incredible student. She is taking honors classes at Robious Middle School. Kaitlyn is also a member of her school debate club and Builders Club, in which she volunteers her time to help others less fortunate than her.

Kaitlyn has had several surgeries to make her as mobile and as comfortable as possible. Even though she is a champ and smiles through her medical challenge, her condition is painful. In addition, her legs and feet are not growing age appropriately and the difference in the size of her legs and her feet is causing a lot of hip and knee pain. To alleviate her condition, amputating the nonfunctional part of her leg is necessary. Unless an amputation is performed, she runs the risk of causing further damage to her hips and knee, as she gets older. After serious consideration by Kaitlyn’s orthopedic specialist, Dr. Tuten, and a second opinion from specialists at the Children’s Hospital, on January 7th, 2016, Kaitlyn will undergo an amputation of the nonfunctional part of her left leg.

Kaitlyn’s surgery is covered by her insurance but the prosthetic that will afford her the most mobility and allow her to continue to thrive as best she can at home and school costs thousands of dollars and is not fully covered by her insurance. In addition, Kaitlyn will be in a wheelchair for a few months and will need wheelchair ramp. The monies raised will be used to for Kaitlyn’s post-operative care, building a wheelchair ramp and most importantly toward her prosthetic.

The goal is to be able to offer Kaitlyn the most pain free life that affords her the greatest mobility and we need your help. The hope is that this surgery will allow Kaitlyn to continue to thrive and to be as active if not more active than she was prior to the surgery. With the help of God and your contribution we can achieve this. Thank you for your contribution it is very much appreciated
