Kalah Shannon Gary’s life was tragically taken by the police on Saturday May 21st 2022 in Laurens, SC at approximately 8pm. Even though Kalah’s mental illness was well documented with the local police, her life was still tragically taken. Kalah’s family and friends are dedicated to see real change and ensure Legislation that was passed in 2017 be fully funded and implemented in South Carolina. The Williams/Gary family are dedicated to seeking #justiceforkalah.

Kalah’s family is determined that her name will be more than just another hashtag.

Kalah’s Father Troy Williams Facebook Post May 23rd

“This weekend me and my wife witnessed something a parent should never have to witness. Our daughter was shot and killed by the police. Her life was taken. Remember her as the smart, young, intelligent, black woman she was. Her soul…. so pure and genuine. She had so much to live for. I hope and pray no one has to go through what our family is going through now but I know sadly this is an all too common reality for Us as a people. But make no mistake our daughter did not have to die that day. And I nor our family will stop until we have justice for our daughter. We need answers!!!! Kalah we love you and your life will have meaning. Say her name, she was a real person and not just another headline!!!!!! #justiceforkalah #sayhername

A foundation will be established in honor of Kalah to assist others who are attempting to LIVE with mental illness. For inquiries please contact Kalah’s family [email redacted]
