Please help our Kalakaua Middle School keiki as we start our adventure as Heroes! The Kalakaua Middle School Hero Program is designed to incentivize positive school behavior, to encourage daily school attendance, and to create a positive and healthy school climate by providing rewards for our students such as: school supplies, replacement school IDs, school uniforms, payment for school field trips and more!
Hero-K12 a nation-wide program that has shown to increase positive school behavior as well as decrease negative behavior that results in interruptions to daily learning. Hero has also shown to improve relationships between teachers and students as well as amongst peers, and the program helps to decrease truancy along with other behaviors that negatively impact long-term academic success and social-emotional health. Kalakaua students are provided opportunities on a daily basis to earn Hero points electronically for demonstrating positive behaviors such as: being in class by 8am, dressing appropriately in school uniform with ID and lanyard, being on time to each class period, being prepared for classes with binders, planners, supplies, and assignments, and for demonstrating “KMS 3” (Kalakaua Middle 3): Knowing how to solve problems, Making good choices, and Showing respect. Students may also earn Hero points by attending events during non-school hours (such as parent nights) or by being a part of an after-school activity (such as tutoring, math team, robotics, sports teams, dance club, and more). Students are then able to redeem their Hero points for various items such as school supplies and toiletries, privileges such as a “Flash Pass” to lunch, a VIP basketball court during free time, Free Dress Day, or even discounted and/or free field trips and school events like Ice Palace, Dave and Buster’s, and 8th grade banquet.
Kalakaua Middle School is located in the heart of Kalihi; where daily life is a “hustle and bustle”; where parents often work two, three, sometimes four jobs to provide for their families; where teachers work long hours to create an effective, meaningful, and safe school environment; and where students often struggle to learn academically as well as social-emotionally.
