Kalavati's Care and Recovery Fund

UPDATE: Where we are at, and how the money will be handled.
Dear friends of Kalavati,
First, I'd like to acknowledge the generosity shown by all who have donated for a dear friend in such need. Kalavati has expressed her absolute amazement that so many have stepped in to support her during an awful time.
Kalavati is doing better. Her wounds are healing and she is out of danger and returning to normal life.
The next step is for me to personally withdraw the money (over $11,000 right now) to my personal account and then to immediately transfer it on to an account she has set up for this fund. It will then be hers to use for the purposes stated below. I am currently awaiting the release of the funds by Gofundme and will act as soon as this release occurs.
I write this here to ensure that the process is transparent and that all who have donated feel confident that the money has indeed reached her without her having to do any kind of work or admin to manage the fund. The total amount raised will be visible on this page even if further donations arrive and even after withdrawals are made, which will ensure that no mistakes are made in getting all funds into her hands.
Kalavati is very moved by the gestures of generosity and will try to personally acknowledge everyone's kindness in the coming days and weeks.
Again, thanks so very much for the kindness you have shown for such a dear person who surely appreciates it.
ORIGINAL POST
Many of us will have heard about the tragic and disturbing events that led to our dear friend Kalavati being hospitalized with serious stab wounds and injuries earlier in the month. Many are also aware of her naturally kind and generous personality that she shares with everyone she meets.
Right now, following this very painful event, Kalavati is quietly recovering with the support of family and friends. She is staying with her mother near the hospital in rented short-term accommodation, which allows her to receive necessary treatment and also look after her son, who is three years old.
Considering the seriousness of her injuries, this is good news. Kalavati will be okay.
The road ahead, though, promises to be tough. Prior to recent events, Kalavati was already managing the reality of being a cancer survivor. A brain tumor in her earlier life left her miraculously alive, but with challenges around vision and other skills that Kalavati has bravely lived with, and even thrived with, for many years. She is now facing this new set of challenges and could use the kind assistance of friends and well-wishers.
Many of us want to help Kalavati at this time and donating money to aid in her recovery is a way that we can.
Funds donated for Kalavati’s care will go toward meeting her immediate living expenses (including the mounting cost of accommodation near the hospital, transportation, food, meeting the needs of her son etc.) Any funds not used for these immediate living expenses will be used to assist Kalavati in rebuilding her life with her little boy and will help to ensure that she can continue her recovery without the added strain of financial hardship.
While it is unclear what kinds of professional and community support Kalavati and her family may need going forward, her need for financial help is both urgent and clear. Kalavati is very unwell, she lives in a modest rented flat with her three-year-old son, she does not currently own a working vehicle, she is not able to work, she has no savings at all, and yet she is faced with managing the expenses associated with this crisis. While Kalavati is being lovingly and expertly cared for by her mother, the financial costs associated with the situation are too much to be borne by so few people.
Let’s open our hearts to a dear friend in need.
UPDATE: Saturday Feb 20th
AMAZINGLY, we have actually exceeded the humble goals we set for this fundraiser in just a couple of days. This is such a great outcome and means so much. Your generosity at this time is very much needed and appreciated.
The goal we set is a figure we thought was both reasonable and substantial enough to be helpful - it is not a limit on what she can or should receive.
Considering the serious and ongoing nature of the challenges Kalavati is facing, every donation that makes up or exceeds the goal we set is equally needed and appreciated.
Love, and so many thanks <3
