Lois Kalberer's Medical Fund

May 6, 2015 - Lois Kalberer was found in her home, unresponsive, in the late afternoon by husband Brad. EMT's were called and promptly came to take her to Sidney Health Center where Brad was told "there is a lot of bleeding in her brain and it doesn't look good." Within two hours the two were on a medi-flight to Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, where Lois was diagnosed with a grade 5 Subarachnoid Hemmorrhage caused by a grade 5 Ruptured Brain Aneurysm.
This inury, along with the increased severity of a grade 5, has a 50%-80% mortality rate yet still Lois hangs in. The surgery to secure the anuerysm was a success but the journey is far from over. Each day presents its own challenges to overcome and battles to face. With a mix of good and bad days, as well as good and bad hours, she is slowly inching her way to a recovery.
On May 24th, she was moved from the CCU (critical care unit) of Swedish Medical Center to the Colorado Acute Care Facility where she will receive 24 hour care for an expected 25 days. At the new facility she will be taught how to breath on her own again as an initial step to recovery, after which she will begin an intensive program to help regain her motor functions. Brad will begin his full time job of helping her remember how to move again.
The amount of damage done to her brain is yet to be determined. We are all hopeful she will overcome the odds and get back to being Lois, though it could take years. There is a high probability that she could forever be in a care facility and there are no indicators right now that tell us what the future holds.
The overwhelming support from friends and family as well as the thoughts and prayers have helped a great deal thus far. Please continue to keep Lois in your prayers.
Any and all donations are very much appreciated.
