Kaleb's open heart surgery

Donation protected
Hi! I'm Gina, the Aunt of Kaleb Cerenil and sister of Crystal Hanley. I don't quite know where to start, so I'll just dive in. Sorry if it's a long read Kaleb has to have open heart surgery June 30th in Denver at Childrens Hospital. Here's a little back story.... This past wrestling season Kaleb started having what we are calling "episodes" of passing out during matches, which caused the medic at the time to pull him from wrestling and having Crystal follow up with his Dr. After the visit the Dr wasn't comfortable releasing him back to normal activities so he referred him to a cardiologist. After the visit Kaleb had to do a series of stress tests and scans. This Dr said he was fine to go back to normal activities. So, fast forward to track season, Kaleb finished it with out any additional episodes. However, Crystal was sure something more was there so she decided to trust her gut and get a second opinion. Kaleb was seen by a new Dr, which pulled him from all activities that may raise his heart rate. See, Kaleb's condition is often found on an autopsy and not before. It's found in less than 1% of people but mostly found after they pass away. God gave him and my sister a sign for a reason. Kaleb now has to have open heart surgery on June 30th which will completely fix his heart and will go back to living a normal life enjoying all of his normal activities. He will spend about a week in the hospital and finish recovery at home. I asked Crystal to explain his diagnosis and treatment so I'll copy and paste below. Kaleb is 13 years old and a student at Sidney Middle School. He loves all things sports including football, wrestling, swim team and track. He enjoys spending time with his brothers and sister, and sometimes hanging out with his cousins ❤️ Crystal is a single Mom of 4 and busts her butt to make life happen for all her kiddos, this is simply a bump in the road of life but I want to try to make it easier to take time off of work for her to stay with Kaleb while he is in the hospital, at home and to help with medical expenses. Thank you for sharing, donating and reaching out!

It's called a right coronary anomalous. His right coronary comes off the left side of his heart instead of the right. By having this deformity his right coronary artery is compressed by his pulmonary vessel.
They are going to do an "unroofing" procedure to fix it. They basically are rerouting the right coronary artery so it's not compressed by the pulmonary vessel. If they can't re route it they have to transplant it, completely pick it up and place it on the right side of the heart which is far riskier and we don't want to have to do it.
