Kaleidoscope Child: The Documentary

Hello Everyone!

I’m filmmaker Michael Patrick McKinley, and I’m very excited to tell you about my latest documentary project, Kaleidoscope Child! Many of you visiting here are familiar with David Ault and the truly amazing work he and his Kaleidoscope Child Foundation have been doing for the last 20 years. From the foundation’s powerful origin story to the real lives that are being impacted every single day, this is an incredibly layered and compelling story which I am looking forward to telling cinematically!

While most of you are familiar with David and his work, you likely haven’t heard of me! I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you my 2017 documentary HAPPY. Based on the life of visual artist Leonard “Porkchop” Zimmerman, it was my feature film debut as a director, and it went around the world on the film festival circuit winning a clutch of lovely accolades along the way. In the spirit of full disclosure, HAPPY is a film about grieving, but it’s ultimately uplifting and inspiring…and those are the kind of stories I’m compelled to tell. Back to the Kaleidoscope Child!

Independent films are notoriously difficult to get financed. Most depend on the generosity of Patrons of The Arts for funding, and that’s how this project will get made too. We’ve given careful thought to how we can say thank you with the following perk incentives. Here’s how YOU can help us make a movie!

Tier One: ASSOCIATE PRODUCER ANYTHING YOU CAN GIVE $

We promise, no contribution is too small! Every single dollar we raise is crucial to ensuring that this film gets made and seen, and we appreciate you! When the film is complete, you’ll be able to see it before anyone else when you receive a link to watch the film at one of 3 scheduled online viewing parties. These dates will be announced in advance so you can plan accordingly! We wholeheartedly thank you for your faith in this project.

Tier Two: CONTRIBUTING PRODUCER $2500-$9,000

The Contributing Producers are the workhorse of independent film fundraising. For their generous contributions, they’ll receive a Contributing Producer credit over the film’s closing credits, and an invitation (for 4 people) to a very special in-person sneak preview screening in Atlanta! This private catered event will be exclusive to the film’s Production Crew, and both Contributing and Executive Producers. It will be the ONLY big screen opportunity you’ll have before we hit the film festival circuit!

Tier Three: EXECUTIVE PRODUCER $10,000-$20,000

In the movie biz, the Executive Producer is often tasked with securing financing. Because you’ll be aiding in just that, you’ll receive an Executive Producer credit over the film’s opening titles! You’ll also receive an invitation (for 4 people) to the in-person sneak preview screening in Atlanta. This private event will be exclusive to the film’s Production Crew, and both Contributing and Executive Producers. It will be the ONLY big screen opportunity before we hit the film festival circuit! But we’re not done thanking you for your generosity quite yet…

An Executive Producer sized contribution will not just aid in film production costs, but also do something truly beneficial for a Cambodian family in need. The creation of a freshwater well, permanently dedicated in your name and marked with a plaque, will benefit them for years to come!

Tier Four: MOGUL / THE FILMMAKING EXPERIENCE $25,000+

You have a serious stake in this film and are passionate about getting it made! Not only are you credited as an Executive Producer over the film’s opening titles and receive the same in-person private screening invitation and the naming rights as Tier 3 Producers, but as a Mogul, you are exclusively invited to travel with the film crew to Cambodia and or India! This incredible opportunity not only gives you some insight into the filmmaking process, but provides you with an amazing, cultural immersion experience. This is a fully guided “land package” which includes your lodging, meals, and ground transportation. In addition to that, you can then be present for the dedication ceremony of your freshwater well. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once principal photography commences this Fall, you’ll be invited to follow my filmmaker’s journey. From the very first slate all the way through postproduction, you’ll have a behind-the-scenes front row seat to the filmmaker’s process. I’ll send everyone the link to follow once we get rolling!
