Kaleo 2024

Two years ago (time flies!) I moved to the Lone Star State, becoming a Bobcat at Texas State University! Whilst here, I have become involved in a student organization called Student Mobilization (StuMo). It's a college ministry that began in Arkansas back in the 80's and has grown to be on college campuses all over the USA! StuMo has really given me a home away from home. Last summer, I got the opportunity to spend 8-weeks in Florida at our summer program - Kaleo. I spent my time completing a full semester of classes whilst having daily trainings alongside students from all over Texas. It was the most transformational two months of my life! It helped me to realize who I am and what I truly desire; my confidence grew and the social anxiety I have long battled went away.

This summer, I am heading back to Kaleo as a leader! I am so excited for the opportunity to play a part in the growth of others. Whilst there, we stay 8 in a room and share a bed. Students work full time jobs (I did full-time school due to my visa). Time management and punctuality are essential to a successful summer at Kaleo. You learn how to deal with inevitable conflict in a loving way and how to get on with all different personality types. My interactions with others are so much more positive thanks to my first summer in Orlando!

Kaleo is all about growing in your faith, character and leadership. How do we navigate being a Christian in the 'real world' ? That's what this summer answers for us! It gave me community from not just my own college, but colleges across the State. It is going to be so special to watch my friends experience the same thing that I did last year.
