Aloha Friends,
With a heavy heart it is time we must say goodbye to the beautiful man that was, and always will be, Mr. Maui. With a smile bright enough to outshine the sun, yet soft enough calm the soul, Chris has touched the lives of so many on Maui, across the country, and around the world. Kalikiano, you are loved by many and will be sorely missed, thank you for sharing your light.
To celebrate his life, the family is planning a public tribute on November 19, 2016 and we'd like to ensure that as many of his family as possible are able to attend. The money raised in this campaign will go toward assisting family members from afar with travel. Furthermore, additional funding will go toward assisting in covering expenses associated with his life celebration and funeral costs.
To do this, we are asking for your donations as quickly as possible in hopes of raising at least $20,000 or more by November 19, 2016. Any donation great or small will be greatly appreciated. The reason for the short time frame is to ensure airfare can be purchased in time for the family to come together.
On behalf of his family, his extended Maui ohana, and especially Chris, your support will be so very much appreciated. He gave so much to all of us... let's show him how much he truly means to us and how much we love him. Please help share the word by copying this campaign link to your own facebook page, and or sending it out to family and friends via email.
Big Mahalo to everyone that has already contributed and those yet to.

Per request from the GoFundMe team, I have been asked to provide the following information, just to make sure this campaign is completely transparent.
1. Who am I? My name is Allen Hanberg. I work for the University of Hawaii at Manoa as an assistant professor of Nursing. Here on Maui, I oversee the BSN program for our Maui and Kauai students. Chris and I were very close, he was very important to me, and he taught me so much about Maui and the Hawaiian culture.
2. Where am I from? I am originally from a little town in Utah called "Altamont." But am very happy to call Maui my home. I specifically live in Kihei, just up from Kalama Park.
3. What is my relationship to the parties I'm raising funds for? Kaliki and I were very close, my heart still hurts from his passing. We were very close friends, and connected on so many levels. I have also had the opportunity to get to know some of his family very well, specifically his sister Momi (Kathy) and her husband Joe. I know many of his other siblings and family through facebook and look forward to meeting them at his celebration of life.
4. How will the funds raised be spent? All of the money raised will be spent on helping cover the costs associated with Chris' funeral expenses, his celebration of life, AND travel expenses for family from the mainland. Costs have already exceeded $20,000, and we are hopeful to relieve some of that burden from the family through these donations.
5. How do I intend to get the funds to those in need? On Friday, November 18, 2016, I plan to withdraw the funds from the gofundme campaign. I will have a cashiers check made from Bank of Hawaii payable to his sister Momi and Joe. I will hand deliver the check to her. I am giving the check to her because she has overseen and organized the travel expenses and funeral expenses, and the bulk of the current costs have come directly out of their pocket.
Mahalo Nui Loa to everyone for your generous support.
