Kansas Cancer Fund
Kansas has always been my "special" furry child. Everyone that sees him thinks he's too big, too red to be a Golden, but in true form he knows no strangers like a true Golden. He's my loveable 86lb lap dog who has gotten away with more than he should, needed more training than received and loves being dirty and muddy more than clean.
He was recently diagnosed as having Leukemia or Stage 5 Lymphoma, true to Kansas being "special", they can not pin point his exact Cancer. The day before Christmas Eve, Kansas received his first Chemo treatment. During his time at the K-State Vet School, he managed to trick the Oncology Doctors and Students into spoiling him with Chicken and having his food warmed by microwave if it was too cold. His Cancer treatment plan is a 19 week, (4) 4 week-session treatments with 1 week off between sessions.
Just about everyone that meets him, loves him...even when he's a bit rambunctious. He loves to say hello to everyone and knows no strangers...even when the other dog/person wants nothing to do with him...he will make sure you say hello or play even for a second.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story!
UPDATE - after completing 10 chemo treatments, bloodwork has shown an abnormality in the cancer cells within his blood. The previous cells have become smaller and are in remission, but smaller cells are becoming larger and more aggressive. Kansas' cancer has been pinpointed to be a T-cell disease and are looking at changing his treatment and starting a new 15 week program. The Oncologists are optomistic that with the new treatment, we can keep the cancer in Clinical Remission and Kansas can live a healthy, long life. The new treatment drug is new to the market and quite a bit more expensive, but it is proving to be successful.
