KAPSA to urgently help the beautiful street dogs of Kalkan
Hi, I'm Jamie (12 years old) and I am trying to raise funds for Kapsa, an animal charity run by volunteers in Kalkan, Turkey who work so hard to ensure the street animals are happy, healthy, well fed, loved and neutered.
Unfortunately, following the central governments announcement last week, the estimated 4 million street dogs are to be rounded up and sent to very overcrowded dog shelters. In Kalkan, this process began on Thursday with dogs being darted, removed from their safe, sunny spots, loaded into vans and driven away to a life behind bars. Despite many local residents angrily protesting and many local authorities being against this law they are powerless to stop it.
Kapsa are now desperately raising funds to provide a safe place for as many of their street dogs as possible, in foster care or through adoptions as well as raising money to make living conditions more comfortable for the dogs that sadly end up at the local dog shelter in Kas.
I feel so sad and so worried for the dogs I share my holiday with every single year and would like to help in any way possible. Next weekend (22nd/23rd March) I am going to do a sponsored 'Weekend Marathon Walk' where I will walk 26 miles, come rain or shine, over the weekend (with Mum) If you are able to kindly sponsor me I would be so grateful. No amount is too small.
Thank you so much for reading.
