Kara & Braxton Southwick
Donation protected
On December 31, Kara gave birth to Anastasia Elora Southwick via emergency c-section. Anastasia was not breathing or moving when she was born and was immediately rushed to resuscitation. It was determined that she had suffered a rare incident of severe brain injury in utero, due to lack of oxygen for a period of time (possibly an umbilical cord kink or suffocation), resulting in severe brain damage.
The medical term is HIE (hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy).
Anastasia was life flighted to Utah Valley Hospital to receive further treatment and testing and has been in the level 3 NICU fighting for her life ever since. After a long and traumatic week of testing, praying, and waiting, baby Anastasia is still on life support with many unknowns in the near future.
The road ahead is long, unclear, and has only just begun - but we are asking for our friends, family and community’s support during this difficult time. In addition to prayers, we are asking for donations to help cover medical and financial costs for Anastasia and family.
Given the unknown, Kara and Braxton will be spending as much time as possible with Baby Anastasia, whilst also dealing with recovery, keeping them out of work for the time being.
The funds raised will go directly towards Kara and Anastasia’s ongoing emergency medical expenses and ensuring that Kara and Braxton can focus on their recovery and family without the added stress of financial strain.
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. If you are unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing this campaign with your network. Your thoughts, prayers, and financial support mean the world to us.
We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
