Kara Lowry’s Cancer Treatment

During a routine eye exam a spot was found on Kara’s eye. There was fluid leaking from the tumor and a retinal detachment was forming. The hope was to come back in 3 months to see if there were any changes to the eye but within a matter of weeks Kara had to go back to the specialist because she was having blurred vision and seeing flashes of light. It was found that the retina detachment was worse and the tumor had grown. It was determined that it was cancer.

The standard mode of treatment is an intense surgery to inject radiation into the tumor. It comes with a host of possible long term complications. The biggest issue is that this little tumor is 0mm from the optic nerve and to inject radiation into the tumor would also hit the nerve and cause blindness in that eye.

Whichever treatment option is chosen comes with exorbitant costs. Kara’s husband Luke was diagnosed with cancer almost two years ago and they were trying to get back on their feet when they received this news about Kara. Any money received will go towards treatment costs, medical related living/traveling expenses and towards any other basic necessities that may be needed.
