Karen Hendrickson Battle with Cancer

Hi, my name is Curtis and I am fundraising for my mom Karen and dad Mike. My mom was diagnosed with Lymphoma the end of September and has been very ill the last 6 weeks. In fact, she has been home a total of 6 days since the 1st of October. Mom has spent extended stays at Mercy Iowa City, Mercy Rehabilitation Center, and The U of I Hospital. On October 28th, they were finally able to take a biopsy of the mass and was it was identified a Large B Cell Lymphoma, which we are told is an aggressive form of Cancer.

This journey has been a roller coaster for our family. There have been many days of "jumping through hoops", waiting on answers, after test after test. My mom has also seen some victories. She was able to tolerate a low dose of chemotherapy at the U last weekend, which we were worried she wouldn't be able to handle.

Because of her condition, she was transferred to a Speciality Hospital in Davenport on Tuesday, where she will stay for the next few weeks. This has added new challenges to this journey.

Up until her transfer, our family and our wonderful support system (my mom's sisters Shirley and Kim) worked together to make sure someone was with my mom 24/7 while she was at the U of I Hospitals. At her current hospital, overnight guests are not allowed, so my dad has been staying in a hotel so he can be close to her and be there as much as possible. This is the reason we are asking for assistance. As you can imagine, all of the travel, lodging, and meals can add up quick for my dad.
