Karen Marano & her Mom’s transplant journey ❤️

Hi, my name is Kieran and I am raising funds to help make life a little less challenging for a friend who gives so much of herself to do the same for others.

Karen Marano is a strong, selfless, devoted person who gives herself and her time to her family, clients, and community. Her mother, Linda McCrady, was diagnosed with leukaemia in July of 2022 and has been on a journey full of ups and downs since. Thankfully, there has been some light as Linda has been successful in securing a bone marrow transplant (taking place January 18/23); however, this is not the end of the road. Linda will be required to stay in hospital for a minimum of 3 weeks following the transplant, and then remain in Ottawa for an additional 3 months for chemotherapy and regular follow up with her transplant team.

With Linda’s relocation to Ottawa, Karen has been and will continue to travel back and forth as Linda’s care partner. With this comes many additional expenses that are not supported through travels grants. In addition, Karen- being self employed, has had limited ability to work as she has been with her Mom each day since the beginning of this battle, and will continue to be there every step of the way. As a self employed person, Karen does not receive many of the benefits that we may not think about until a family member is in need (ie. compassionate care leave, sick days, etc.).

Please consider supporting Karen and her mother as they continue the next steps in Linda’s journey. I know that Karen would never ask but as a community I am positive we can come together to lessen some of the financial burden and stress so that Karen can continue to travel between Thunder Bay and Ottawa to care for both her family and her Mom.

Karen will never begin to know the impact she has had on me. She has been there to guide me through challenges without judgement, a listening ear when needed the most, a sidekick to laugh with and see the good in each day, and most importantly a friend. I hope to use this GoFundMe to help the friend who helps so many, in her time of need.
