Karen Meek Lyming Memorial Fund
Donation protected
On April 18th, 2020, God welcomed home my mom after fighting pancreatic cancer bravely for the past year. She was 64 and living in Speedway, Indiana.
Mom enjoyed laughing and spending time with her partner of 7 years, Mike Walker. She is survived by her father, David Meek, her brothers Rod and Randy Meek and their families, 13 children, 17 grandchildren, 3 dog babies and countless friends and wayward children she loved whole-heartedly and considered family.
Mom was a loving and caring person with an open heart to all. She was known for her generosity, absolute love of life, and her love of “piddlin” or window shopping. She was an exceptional mother and friend and cared deeply for everyone who crossed her path. Mom was always the first to offer help or a compliment to a complete stranger. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Mom was immensely proud of her family and her love of life and warmth lives on in them today.
Due to the current restrictions in Kansas because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, a celebration of life to be held in Topeka, Kansas that will be announced at a later date this year when friends and family are able to gather safely.
The family has been blessed with the opportunity to match any donations or monetary offerings. These will then be donated to Speedway Animal Rescue in Speedway, Indiana. If you want to help honor Karen's memory and love of pets please consider donating here. Also please feel free to share memories and pictures!
We're reaching for $3000 because of a real need in this community. From the shelters website "Today we received extremely depressing news. Carlos May, Speedway’s new Town Manager, has mandated that Speedway Animal Rescue must pay the town $30 for every stray dog we pick up from the street department. What does this mean? In 2019 we rescued over 100 dogs. $30 per dog is $3,000. That’s more than 1/4 of our vet bill for all of 2019." We would love to help cover that for them this year.
