Help Karen Fight Colorectal Cancer: Support Her Journey

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
My name is Rob Quitzon, and as some of you may know, my big sister Karen was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in December 2020. Karen’s journey has not been easy, but she has continued to fight with incredible courage and determination.
Despite exhausting traditional treatment options, her fight isn’t over as all the treatments available to her in Canada are no longer as effective. Her doctors believe a clinical trial offers her the best chance to overcome this devastating illness.
Her next course of action is to apply for a clinical trial available through MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. However, the costs associated with these trials—travel, lodging, medical bills, and other related expenses—are overwhelming and far beyond what our family can manage alone. Even the cost just to be assessed to be considered for a clinical trial is roughly $30,000USD.
Furthermore, Karen has been unable to work since her diagnosis, and while she has been receiving disability insurance, the increased cost of living that everyone is also experiencing adds another layer of need.
About Karen
For those of you who know Karen, you’ll agree that she has always had a very determined spirit. She is a pragmatic problem solver who faces challenges head-on, with the attitude that she can singlehandedly overcome any obstacle in her way.
Karen has also been incredibly fortunate to have the unwavering support of her partner, AJ, who has stood by her side every step of the way. Whether attending appointments, helping manage day-to-day life, or simply being a source of strength and comfort, AJ’s love and dedication have been an anchor for Karen during this difficult time.
In addition, Karen is someone who greatly values her privacy. That said, the fact that this GoFundMe even exists shows that even someone as self-determined and reserved as Karen understands that this is a battle she doesn’t have to fight alone. She has always been the type to step up for others in need, and now it’s our turn to rally around her.
